About Brown University

The Ivy League university located on 140 acres in Providence, Rhode Island was the first United States college to accept students of all religions. Brown University was established in 1764 as the College in the English Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Its women's college called Pembroke College was combined with the university in 1971. Famous Brown alumni include philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr., U.S. Chair of the Federal Reserve Janet Yellen, football coach John Heisman, Forbes CEO Timothy Forbes and actress Emma Watson. Brown University had five professors and two alumni named Nobel Laureates.
