The name Sinagua was derived from the Spanish words sin (without) and agua (water) which came from the early Spanish, who called the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagtaff, the Sierra Sin Agua or “Mountains Without Water.” Dr. Colton, impressed with this pueblo culture’s dry farming ability, believed the name Sinagua was appropriate.
