【Upper Antelope Canyon: Admission Fee (optional)】
Prime-time
Duration: at least 1.5 hours
The most popular slot canyon in the American Southwest is Antelope Canyon, a sandstone formation formed by flood and rainwater. The canyon is located on a Navajo reservation.
The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means the place where water runs through rocks. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (called "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or 'spiral rock arches'. Both are in the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation. The canyons are accessible by guided tours only.
【Horseshoe Bend】
Duration: at least 0.5 hour
Horseshoe Bend, located within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, is about 5 miles down river from Lake Powell, is a sharp turn in the Colorado River that was formed from erosion over the course of millions of years.
【Optional Extra Charge: Glen Canyon Dam】
Glen Canyon Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam on the Colorado River in northern Arizona, United States, near the town of Page. The 710-foot (220 m) high dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) from 1956 to 1966 and forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre-feet (33 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named after John Wesley Powell, who in 1869, led the first expedition to traverse Colorado's Grand Canyon by boat.
【Powell Lake】
Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona, United States. Most of Lake Powell, along with Rainbow Bridge National Monument, is located in Utah. It is a major vacation spot that around two million people visit every year. It is the second-largest man-made reservoir by maximum water capacity in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre-feet of water when full. However, due to high water withdrawals for human and agricultural consumption, and because of subsequent droughts in the area, Lake Mead has fallen below Lake Powell in size several times during the 21st century in terms of volume of water, depth, and surface area.
