This monument in Lucerne commemorates the Swiss Guards killed protecting King Louis XVI and the royal family when Tuileries castle was attacked in 1792, during the French Revolution. Second lieutenant Carl Pfyffer von Altishofen, who was on leave at the time, advocated the building of the monument. Bertel Thorvaldsen designed it in 1819, and stone mason Lucas Ahorn carved the 20-foot-tall by 33-foot-long monument from 1820-21. The sandstone lion lies above a pond on the east end of town under a Latin inscription that says: To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss.

The trip was absolutely amazing overall. I joined as a solo traveler and felt very safe the whole time. The highlight for me was definitely the Eiffel Tower at night and the short stop in Lucerne was like a dream. The itinerary is quite packed but well organized. Hotels were clean and comfortable. Only small issue was some long driving hours between cities, but that’s expected for a multi-country tour.

Beautiful Scenic Trip with budget
It was an amazing scenic trip. The main attraction is Glacier 3000 visit and lunch there. The entire trip was very beautiful and well managed. Daily 4-6 hour bus drive every day. Took all the destinations as per itinerary except to one because of traffic.
