Three Sisters Islands

The islands were named after the three daughters of War of 1812 Gen. Parkhurst Whitney because he and his three girls were the first to visit the most distant island by crossing the ice. The general, who owned the Cataract House Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York, then asked the islands' owners to rename them. Three Sisters Islands located on the American side of Niagara Falls west of Goat Island are now connected by bridges for visitors to get a splendid view of the rapids before they rush over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Native Americans are said to have made sacrifices of food and other items on the islands and contact the spirit He-No who live in the cave below Niagara Falls.
