San Francisco Zoo

This Bay Area 100-acre zoo is home to the famous gorilla Koko, who can understand more than 1,000 signs in American Sign Language. San Francisco Zoo contains more than 1,000 animals making up 250-plus species. It opened in 1929 as the Fleishhacker Zoo named after its founder Herbert Fleishhacker. The zoo exhibits are categorized under African Savannah, African Aviary, Primate Discovery Center, Cat Kingdom, South America, Bear Country and Children's Zoo. It also has gardens and rides.
