Hotel de Ville

Since 1357, the site of the Hotel de Ville has functioned as the home of Parisian government. The building has been witness to numerous political upheavals, including an attempted coup during the French Revolution and protests surrounding the Franco-Prussian War. Located in front is the Place de Grève, a public square where many were guillotined during the French Revolution. The Hotel de Ville was reconstructed in its original style in the late 19th century and remains the seat of municipal government in Paris.
