This Connecticut state park centers around the amazing castle named the Seventh Sister and designed by its owned actor William Gillette - whose most famous role was of Sherlock Holmes. Gillette Castle State Park was created in 1943 when the state took over the 122-acre property that Gillette commissioned his castle be built on in 1914. The castle is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It contains a museum and the castle's interior has many interesting surprises.
