Barbizon

This charming French village sits at the edge of the Fountainebleau Forest. During the mid-19th century, artists descended upon the town to paint its picturesque landscapes, now known distinctly as the Barbizon school of artists. Visit the Auberge Ganne museum to learn about the Barbizon artists, and the workshops of Jean-François Millet and Theodore Rousseau to see where they lived and worked. Enjoy a walk along the Painter's Trail to visit important landmarks in the city and surrounding forest.
