Astoria Column

Overlooking the mouth of the Columbia River stands the Astoria Column, a 125-foot (38 meter) tower in the Astoria City Park. Built in 1925, the tower has an observation deck for visitors to see the surrounding horizon. The tower was built to resemble the Roman Trajan's Column and commemorate the city of Astoria's role in the historic Astor family business. the column features a mural detailing 14 significant events in Oregon's history and Astoria's role in it, including the Lewis and Clarke Expedition.
