The oldest public park in Warsaw is this former Polish fort that was opened as a recreation area in 1727. A palace was constructed on the fort site in 1666 and then a garden and other grand structures were added. Saxon Garden was destroyed during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising and partially rebuilt after World War II. Notable park sites include the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Water Tower, fountain and the 21 sandstone statues.
