Rhode Island’s State House serves as the state’s capitol building. It was constructed in Providence from 1895 through 1904. Tour the Bell Room to see a replica of the Liberty Bell, and view Gilbert Stuart’s portrait of George Washington in the State Room. Finally, check out the Rotunda – the world’s fourth largest self-supported marble dome, after the Taj Mahal. The Rotunda also has a beautiful painting by Rhode Island native James Allen King. At night the State House lights up with 109 floodlights.
