Mission Dolores also known as Mission San Francisco de Asis was established in 1776 and is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco and the seventh religious settlement of the California chain of missions. The mission has been a key witness to the span of San Francisco's history including the Gold Rush and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Not only is the mission cemetery the only cemetery that remains within the city limits, but it also is the final resting place to both the first Californians and notable California pioneers.
