About Jackson Square

The centerpiece of this enchanting New Orleans park in the city's French Quarter is the magnificent St. Louis Cathedral. Jackson Square was created in 1721 and designed to replicate Paris' Place des Vosges by architect Louis H. Pilie. It was named after American Revolutionary War Gen. Andrew Jackson, who was later elected United States president. The park is a U.S. National Historic Landmark and listed as one of "America's Great Public Spaces" in 2012 by American Planning Association.
