Alcazaba is the best preserved Moorish fortress in all of Spain. Originally built in the 8th century, the fortress’s hilltop location overlooks Malaga and the sea, which helped protect the city from pirates. The Moors added to the fortress in the 11th century, and it later became a palace for Moorish rulers. Today, 100 towers, three palaces and two of the original fortress walls of Alcazaba remain.
