Question 1

What is the best time to visit Thailand avoiding the rainy season?

Accepted Answer

Plan your trip between November and February for dry, cool weather across most regions. The southwest monsoon brings heavy rain from May to October, though islands like Koh Samui face peak rainfall later, from October to December. Avoid April if you dislike extreme heat, as temperatures often exceed 35°C before the rains begin.

Question 2

Which airport should I fly into for visiting northern Thailand versus the islands?

Accepted Answer

Fly into Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok for general connections or Don Mueang for budget carriers. For northern cities like Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, book a direct domestic flight from Bangkok. If heading straight to southern islands like Phuket or Koh Samui, fly directly into their respective international airports to save travel time.

Question 3

Do I need a specific travel pass for using public transport in Bangkok?

Accepted Answer

Yes, purchase a Rabbit Card for seamless travel on the BTS Skytrain and Bangkok Bus services. For the MRT subway, buy a stored-value card at station counters. While single-journey tokens work, reloadable cards save time during rush hour. Note that these cards are not interchangeable between BTS and MRT systems, so carry both if mixing transit lines.

Question 4

How much cash should I carry in Thailand and are credit cards widely accepted?

Accepted Answer

Carry Thai Baht for street markets, tuk-tuks, and small vendors who do not accept cards. Credit cards work well in malls, hotels, and upscale restaurants in major cities. Withdraw cash from ATMs using international cards, but expect a 220 THB fee per transaction. Always notify your bank of travel plans to prevent blocked transactions due to fraud alerts.
