Question 1

What is the best way to reach Sanxiantai from Taitung City without a private car?

Accepted Answer

Take the Taiwan Railways Administration train to Chenggong Station, then transfer to the Hualien Bus route 119 or 119A. Buses run regularly but check the latest schedule as frequency drops on weekends. The ride takes about twenty minutes. Alight at the Sanxiantai stop directly across from the visitor center and bridge entrance.

Question 2

When is the ideal time to visit Sanxiantai to avoid crowds and rough seas?

Accepted Answer

Visit on weekday mornings between October and March for the clearest skies and calmest waters. Summer months bring heavy tourist crowds and potential typhoons that may close the bridge. Early arrival before 9 AM ensures parking availability and unobstructed photos of the arches without groups blocking the view.

Question 3

Is there an entrance fee to walk across the Sanxiantai Pedestrian Bridge?

Accepted Answer

No, access to the Sanxiantai Scenic Area and its iconic eight-arch pedestrian bridge is completely free year-round. The site is managed by the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration. While entry is free, paid parking is available nearby for cars and scooters, though spaces fill quickly during peak holiday periods.

Question 4

What safety precautions should visitors take when exploring the Sanxiantai coastline?

Accepted Answer

Stay strictly on marked paths and the bridge; the volcanic rocks are extremely slippery when wet and waves can surge unexpectedly. Do not climb down to the shore during high tide or rough weather. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip instead of sandals. Heed all warning signs regarding strong currents and unstable cliff edges near the sea stacks.
