Question 1

Is the Roman Baths in Bath indoor or outdoor?

Accepted Answer

The Roman Baths in Bath feature both indoor and outdoor areas. The main bathing complex, including the Great Bath, is open-air and exposed to the elements. However, the surrounding corridors, museum galleries, and exhibits are under cover or indoors. Visitors should dress for outdoor conditions, especially in winter or rainy weather, as substantial time is spent in the uncovered courtyard.

Question 2

What is the best time of year to visit the Roman Baths to avoid crowds?

Accepted Answer

Visit the Roman Baths in January or February, right after the holiday season. These months typically see the fewest tourists. Aim for weekday mornings, especially during school term time. Avoid summer weekends and public holidays. Pre-booking timed entry tickets online is essential to secure access and skip the entrance lines.

Question 3

Can I use the Bath City Pass to access the Roman Baths?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Bath City Pass includes complimentary entry to the Roman Baths. It also offers free access to other attractions and unlimited bus travel in Bath. Purchase the pass online or at the visitor center before your visit. Make sure to book your timed slot at the Roman Baths separately, even with the pass, to guarantee entry.

Question 4

Are the Roman Baths accessible for visitors with mobility issues?

Accepted Answer

The Roman Baths have limited accessibility due to their ancient, uneven surfaces and steep slopes. Wheelchair users can view the Great Bath from an elevated platform. A virtual tour is available for restricted areas. Mobility scooters and wheelchairs are available to book in advance. Assistance dogs are welcome. Contact visitor services ahead of your trip for specific access needs.
