Question 1

When is the rainy season in Quito and how does it affect travel plans?

Accepted Answer

Quito's rainy season runs from January to April and November to December, with afternoon showers most common. Mornings are usually clear, so plan outdoor activities like visiting Mitad del Mundo or Pichincha Volcano early. Carry a lightweight rain jacket and use waterproof footwear. Roads remain accessible, but brief delays can occur during heavy downpours.

Question 2

What’s the best way to travel from Mariscal Sucre International Airport to central Quito?

Accepted Answer

The safest and most reliable option is the official Aeroexpress shuttle or a pre-booked private transfer, both available outside the terminal. Taxis should be arranged via apps like Uber or Cabify—avoid unmarked cabs. The journey to central Quito takes 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. Always keep your belongings secure.

Question 3

Is the Quito Tourist Pass worth it for first-time visitors?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Quito Tourist Pass is valuable for first-time visitors planning to tour multiple sites. It includes entry to over 20 attractions, such as TelefériQo, Museo del Banco Central, and Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, plus free public transport and guided walks. The pass pays for itself after 3–4 attractions and simplifies access across the city.

Question 4

How can travelers manage altitude sickness when arriving in Quito?

Accepted Answer

Quito sits at 2,850 meters (9,350 ft), so rest upon arrival and avoid strenuous activity for the first 24 hours. Stay hydrated, drink coca tea (widely available), and limit alcohol intake. Pharmacies sell altitude sickness remedies like Sorojchi Pills. If symptoms persist, seek medical help—clinics in La Mariscal district are accustomed to treating travelers.
