Such is the density of these "lover's locks" that, when viewed from afar, it's as if the sides of the bridge are covered in confetti. Prior to becoming a popular meeting place for the terminally infatuated, the bridge primarily served as a link between The Louvre, the grande dame of art museums, and the Institut de France, headquarters of five French intellectual academies.
