Question 1

What is the best time to visit Palawan, Philippines to avoid rain and crowds?

Accepted Answer

The ideal time to visit Palawan is from February to March, during the dry season. These months offer minimal rainfall, low humidity, and fewer tourists compared to peak December–January. Temperatures average 27–32°C, making it perfect for island hopping and diving. Avoid the rainy season, which typically runs from July to November, when typhoons may disrupt travel.

Question 2

Which airport should I fly into for Boracay, and how do I get to the island?

Accepted Answer

Fly into Godofredo P. Ramos Airport (MPH) in Caticlan, the closest airport to Boracay. Upon arrival, take a 10-minute van shuttle to the码头 (ferry terminal), then a 15-minute boat to Boracay’s island docks. Kalibo International Airport (KLO) is an alternative, followed by a 2-hour van transfer to the port and a 30-minute ferry ride.

Question 3

Is the Philippine Tourist Card (e.g., ePass or local transport pass) worth getting for Manila travelers?

Accepted Answer

For Manila travelers, use the Beep Card instead—the most reliable stored-value card for public transit. It works on the LRT, MRT, and select buses and retail outlets. Purchase it at convenience stores or transit stations for around PHP 100. While not mandatory, it simplifies commuting and avoids cash handling. Keep your passport ready for airport transit.

Question 4

What local customs should tourists respect in the Philippines during Holy Week?

Accepted Answer

During Holy Week (Semana Santa), especially in conservative towns like Vigan or Sariaya, expect processions, solemn behavior, and limited entertainment. Avoid loud activities, public drinking, and swimming. Many businesses close on Good Friday. Dress modestly at religious events. Respect noise bans and unplug electronics during designated quiet hours. It’s a deeply spiritual time—observe quietly and courteously.
