The prominent Washington, D.C. monument honoring United States President Abraham Lincoln is situated on the National Mall and includes a 2,029-foot reflecting pool. Lincoln Memorial designed by architect Henry Bacon, sculptor Daniel Chester French and artist Jules Guerin in Beaux-Arts style was dedicated in 1922. It features a large sculpture of the 16th president encased in an ancient Greek style temple with Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" and "Second Inaugural Address" engraved in the memorial. The landmark receives more than six million visitors per year and is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Lincoln Memorial is pictured on both the back of the U.S. five dollar bill and penny.

The Amish buggy ride through Lancaster County was the surprise highlight for me. You learn how the community has adapted over centuries without central power or sewage systems, and the farm we visited was genuinely self-sufficient. The marketplace afterward had handmade crafts and jams.

Washington, DC Day All-Inclusive Tour from New York

As a solo traveler, I felt safe and well looked after. The guide took photos for everyone and made sure no one got left behind. The route hits the essentials: Capitol, White House, Lincoln Memorial. Free time was limited but manageable. Good option if you're based in NYC and want a taste of DC.

6-Day US East Coast Panorama Classic Tour

The stop at Whirlpool State Park was a quick one, but the views were absolutely breathtaking. Watching the Niagara River churn through the whirlpool rapids was mesmerizing. It's a short visit, but definitely worth the stop. Another great addition to an already packed itinerary!
