Question 1

When is the best time to visit Kuqa?

Accepted Answer

The best time to visit Kuqa is from April to June and September to October. These periods offer mild temperatures, clear skies, and fewer tourists. Summer (July–August) can be hot, while winter brings cold temperatures. Spring and autumn align with local harvest festivals and optimal conditions for exploring the Taklamakan Desert and Tian Shan foothills.

Question 2

How do I get from Kuqa Lishe Airport to the city center using public transportation?

Accepted Answer

Take Airport Bus Line 1 from Kuqa Lishe Airport to Kuqa Railway Station, which runs every 30–60 minutes from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The ride costs 5 CNY and takes 25 minutes. From the station, use local taxis or Didi for final destinations. Pre-arranged hotel shuttles are also reliable and cost around 30–50 CNY.

Question 3

Are there any cultural etiquette rules to follow when visiting mosques or Uyghur homes in Kuqa?

Accepted Answer

Always dress modestly and remove shoes before entering mosques or private homes. Seek permission before photographing people. Avoid public eating, drinking, or smoking during Ramadan. Greet hosts with "Salamlik" as a sign of respect. Public displays of affection are discouraged. Handshakes are common, but wait for women to initiate physical contact.

Question 4

What local passes or tickets are needed to visit major sites like the Kizil Caves and Tianshan Grand Canyon?

Accepted Answer

No city-wide tourist pass is available; entry fees are paid per site. Kizil Caves cost 75 CNY (includes shuttle), open 9:00 AM–7:00 PM. Tianshan Grand Canyon is 80 CNY, open 8:30 AM–6:30 PM. Carry ID—foreign tourists may need to register at local police stations before visiting remote areas. Booking guided tours simplifies access and logistics.
