Question 1

What is the best time of year to visit Kaohsiung to avoid rain and extreme heat?

Accepted Answer

Visit Kaohsiung between October and December for the most pleasant weather. The typhoon season ends by October, rainfall decreases significantly, and temperatures drop to 24–28°C. This period offers comfortable conditions for exploring sites like Lotus Pond and the Pier-2 Art Center without the humidity of summer months.

Question 2

How do I get from Kaohsiung International Airport to the city center using public transit?

Accepted Answer

Take the Kaohsiung Metro’s Red Line from Siaogang Station (R4), located a 5-minute walk from the airport terminal. A one-way trip to central stations like Formosa Boulevard (R10) takes 20 minutes and costs NT$70. Trains run every 10 minutes from 6:00 AM to midnight.

Question 3

Is the Kaohsiung Pass worth it for a 2-day city tour?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Kaohsiung Pass pays off if you plan to visit at least three paid attractions. It includes unlimited rides on the metro, bus, and ferry, plus entry to sites like the Taoyuan International Art Festival and Shoushan Zoo. Available for 24, 48, or 72 hours, the 48-hour pass (NT$599) suits most short stays.

Question 4

Are there cultural customs I should follow when visiting temples in Kaohsiung?

Accepted Answer

Dress modestly and remove shoes before entering temple halls. Avoid pointing at altars or taking photos during prayer. Light incense sticks respectfully—typically three—and hold them at forehead level before placing them in the urn. Never step on temple thresholds, as they are considered spiritually significant.
