How do I get from Luxor to Edfu by ferry, and when does it run?

The public ferry from Luxor to Edfu operates seasonally during the cooler months (October–April) when Nile water levels permit. It runs approximately once daily, departing Luxor in the morning and taking 4–5 hours. Confirm departure times locally at Luxor's ferry terminal, as services may be suspended in summer due to low water levels.

Is the Temple of Horus in Edfu open to non-Muslim visitors, and what are the current entry requirements?

Yes, the Temple of Horus is open to all visitors regardless of religion. As of 2024, entry requires a valid tourist ticket—admission is 300 EGP for adults. Foreign visitors must present a passport. The site is open daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with last entry one hour before closing.

What’s the best way to reach Edfu Temple from Edfu West Bank railway station?

From Edfu West Bank station, take a local taxi or tuk-tuk to the Temple of Horus—the distance is about 2.5 km and takes 5–10 minutes. Agree on fares before departure; expect to pay 40–60 EGP. Avoid walking due to lack of sidewalks and high midday temperatures.

Are there any cultural etiquette rules to follow when visiting Edfu as a tourist?

Dress modestly when visiting Edfu, especially near residential areas—cover shoulders and knees. Always ask permission before photographing locals. During Ramadan, avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours. Respect religious sites by not touching hieroglyphs or climbing on temple structures.
