Which airport is closest to the Confucius Temple in Nanjing and how do I get there?

Nanjing Lukou International Airport is the nearest hub, located about 40 kilometers south. Take Metro Line S1 to Nanjing South Station, then transfer to Line 3 and exit at Fuzimiao Station. The temple sits directly beside Exit 2. This route takes roughly one hour and avoids heavy taxi traffic during peak rush hours in the city center.

When is the best time to visit the Confucius Temple to avoid crowds and rain?

Visit during late autumn, specifically October or November, for mild weather and fewer tourists. Avoid the Spring Festival holiday and the plum rain season from mid-June to July, when heavy downpours are frequent. Early mornings before 9 AM offer the quietest experience for viewing the architecture without the dense crowds that fill the Qinhuai River boardwalks later in the day.

Can I use the Nanjing Tourist Card for entry to the Confucius Temple complex?

Yes, the Nanjing Tourist Card covers admission to the main Confucius Temple hall, the Jiangnan Examination Hall, and the Folk Museum within the complex. However, the card does not include tickets for the scenic boat rides on the Qinhuai River or paid performances. Purchase the physical card or digital pass online before arrival to skip ticket office lines and save on cumulative entry fees.

What currency should I bring and are credit cards accepted at the Confucius Temple market?

The official currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY). While major restaurants and souvenir shops accept Visa or Mastercard, many small street food vendors and traditional craft stalls only accept mobile payments like Alipay or WeChat Pay. Cash is still widely honored as a backup. Ensure you have small bills for purchasing local snacks or tossing coins into the wishing pond near the main gate.
