▼ Izu Cactus Zoo
Izushaboten Animal Park is a popular tourist destination that combines the features of both a botanical garden and a zoo. The park boasts around 1,500 species of cacti and succulents from all over the world, and houses about 140 species of animals, making it a favorite spot for family visitors and nature lovers.
The park's several greenhouses are designed according to geographic regions, showcasing cacti and forest-dwelling succulents from places like Mexico, Madagascar, South America, and Africa. If you're lucky, you might even witness the rare sight of cacti blooming.
At the "Cactus Collection Workshop," visitors can enjoy a DIY succulent potted plant experience, where they can create their own little plant world. After the experience, guests are welcome to take their custom-made potted plants home.
Regarding animals, the park features semi-free-roaming animals such as squirrel monkeys, peacocks, and kangaroos, allowing visitors to interact with them up close in various parts of the park. The central pond also offers a boat experience where you can take a guided tour on a boat led by an "animal guide," feeding animals while observing their adorable behavior.
The star attraction of the park is undoubtedly the "capybara"! Especially during the winter, the park holds its famous limited-time event — the "Original Capybara Open-Air Hot Springs." The capybaras soaking in the steaming hot springs are utterly charming, drawing many visitors to the park. Additionally, at the "Capybara Rainbow Square," visitors can feed the capybaras and even take pictures with them.

▼ Ride the Izu Seaside Train Resort 21 - Black Ship or Golden Snapper Train (Ticket included; seats are free seating, so ocean-side seats are not guaranteed).
The Izu Seaside Train "Resort 21" is a distinctive sightseeing train launched by the Izukyu Railway Company. The most scenic section of the journey runs between Izu Kogen Station and Izu Inatori Station, covering a distance of about 23 minutes. This route offers one of the best ways to enjoy the coastal scenery of Izu. The train runs almost directly along the Pacific coastline, and the views from the windows are stunning—an endless ocean stretching out to the horizon, sparkling waves, and a seamless sky and sea, making it a "moving observation deck."
The train features two special liveries and themes: the historically themed "Black Ship" and the "Kinmedai" (Golden Eye Snapper) themed train, which highlights a famous local product from the Izu region.
One of the most magnificent sections of the journey is the five-minute stretch from Katase Shirahata to Izu Inatori. In this segment, the train runs right by the sea, with waves appearing to crash right next to the windows. The train winds along the cliffs of the coastline, providing an unobstructed view of the sea, especially on clear, sunny days. Whether you're riding the more traditional, history-rich "Black Ship" or the colorful, lively "Kinmedai," this short 20-minute journey offers a chance to experience the breathtaking coastal landscapes and the unique regional culture of Izu.
