We start our Grampians National Park tour at around 8:00 AM, departing Melbourne and passing through the Western Plains of Victoria en route to Ballarat. Ballarat's gold rush history comes alive as we enjoy morning tea at the site of the infamous Eureka Rebellion.
Continuing through picturesque volcanic plains, we pass Moyston, the birthplace of Australian Rules Football, and arrive at the foot of the Grampians Range, or Gariwerd in the local Jardwadjali language. Our first stop immerses us in the Australian bush with a gentle stroll to the Silverband Falls.
We then proceed to Halls Gap for a lunch break (own expense). Keep an eye out for local kangaroos and abundant birdlife as they often frequent the area.
After lunch, we head to the Wonderland Turntable trail for a short hike to the Grand Canyon. Marvel at the towering rock walls, showcasing unique geology with intricate layering and fault lines. Stunning panoramas await at Reeds Lookout, overlooking the Stringybark Forest and Victoria Valley.
Next, we visit the majestic MacKenzie Falls. Set in a gorge surrounded by eucalyptus forest, the cascading water creates a tranquil scene. Choose between walking the Bluff trail along the top of the cliffs for panoramic views or journeying down the stairs to the base of the gorge to admire the falls up close.
Our adventure continues to Boroka Lookout, where panoramic views of the surrounding region include Halls Gap, Lake Bellfield, and beyond. Before heading back to Melbourne, we return to Halls Gap for one last chance to spot the area's wild kangaroo population.
A dinner stop is made on the return journey, followed by stunning views of Melbourne's illuminated skyline. With drop-off at your inner-city accommodation, this day will stand out as a true highlight of your Australian holiday.
