A Hoover Dam And Lake Mead Tour
Seeing the Hoover Dam is a bucket list destination. If you have always desired to explore this impressive structure, we have the best tour for you. To start the day, you will be picked up directly from your Las Vegas Strip hotel. This convenient pick-up does not include a bus terminal allowing you to start your tour right away and to sleep in a little longer.
Travel In Our Luxury Buses
On the journey out of town, your Las Vegas tour guide will narrate the local scenery, giving you all the facts and history of old and new Las Vegas. We like to ensure that all our guests travel in comfort. That is why we operate a fleet of luxury tour buses equipped with individual air-conditioning, adjustable seats, and an on-board restroom.
Arriving At The Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is located only an hour drive from Las Vegas, and you will arrive at your destination in no time. Your tour will begin at the Hoover Dam Visitor Center and the Generator Room. This will be your first look at the mighty Hoover Dam. Lasting about two hours, you will be guided around the Hoover Dam site as well as below it to the Hoover Dam Powerplant. You will learn about the construction of the dam, the history of it, its effect on surrounding areas, and how the dam affects modern-day operations in Las Vegas and far beyond.
What You Will See At The Hoover Dam
Your Hoover Dam Powerplant tour experience will lead you 530 feet underground via elevator to the Penstock Viewing Platform. Here you will witness gigantic pipes measuring 30 feet in diameter that transport the hundreds of thousands of gallons of water each day from Lake Mead to the dam’s generators. Short films and displays along the tour give guests extended information into the workings of the Hoover Dam to help visitors understand the sites they are seeing.
Following this, guests are guided to a room where they will see eight of the 17 generators used to create energy from the Hoover Dam. Next, you will travel back up to ground level for the remainder of the tour which includes interactive exhibits and full-scale models that give you a deeper understanding of the dam’s construction and operation.
The tour then continues with outside displays and exhibits that will take you around Hoover Dam and along the top of the dam as well to really get the full view. Here, you will be able to see the most up-close look of the dam, as well as Lake Mead and the Colorado River all in one view. After concluding the Hoover Dam portion of the tour, your luxury bus will return. Now you have two options for how to continue with your tour.
First Option- Bridge And Boulder City Experience
The first option is to visit the Pat Tillman- Mike O’Callaghan Memorial Bridge to view the Hoover Dam and Colorado River from above-a truly spectacular view. Following this, your driver and guide will then take you to the Lake Mead Overlook, located about 20 minutes away, to see the breathtaking view of the lake. Finally, you will head into Boulder City, known as the town that built the Hoover Dam. There, you will be taken to the Hoover Dam Museum, and then have free time to explore the quaint little town of Boulder City, grab some lunch at one of the local eateries and relax. After about an hour and a half, the bus will return to drive you back to Las Vegas and return you to your same pick-up location.
Second Option- Lake Mead Boat Lunch Cruise
If you choose to upgrade your tour to include a Lake Mead Boat Cruise, then you will head over to the Marina instead of seeing Pat Tillman- Mike O’Callaghan Memorial Bridge and the Hoover Dam Museum in Boulder City. Here, you will board a Lake Mead boat cruise that will take you on a 90-minute journey around Lake Mead. While on-board the cruise, you will receive lunch and be guided to see wildlife and learn the history and formation of Lake Mead. The boat will travel toward the Hoover Dam and takes you as close to it as watercraft is allowed.
After your lunch cruise has ended, the bus will return to pick you up. Then, you will make the drive back into Las Vegas and be dropped off at the same location as your pick-up.
