Traveling isn't cheap, especially cross-continent. I was lucky enough to trim my airfare down to $1,200 with student deals and red-eye flights when I first traveled from Los Angeles to Sydney, and that was a special scenario. Luckily for you Air New Zealand is currently offering discounted rates for U.S. to Australia flights.
If you purchase a flight from October 3rd to November 13th, you can purchase a flight from as low as $995 from LAX & SFO or $1,095 from IAH (Houston) to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Cairns, and Gold Coast. The sale is valid for flights between January 26 to May 31, 2017.
Your travel plans for the year may be winding down as winter sets in, but that's no excuse for missing this fantastic deal that'll help you cut the cost of your 2017 trip. Australia is one of the hottest destinations for trekkers, with over 600,000 U.S. citizens traveling there in 2016, and its summer to fall season (January to May) is looking to be a gorgeous period to visit.
To prepare you for your next big trip, we've prepared a handy-dandy little guide to the destination cities you can get cheap, cheap deals flights to!
Sydney
The most famous of the Australian cities, Sydney is the perfect melting pot of all things Australian. From this one city you can experience the gorgeous surfer beaches, taste delectable cuisine, learn the extensive history of Aboriginal and colonial Australia, take a day trip to the wild outback and fascinating rainforests, and encounter Australia's artsy side (likely with a show at the fabulous Sydney Opera House). Sydney offers world travelers the classic introduction to Australia.
Melbourne
Trendy, charming, and lively, Melbourne is one of Australia's cultural hotspots. Rich in museums, local street art, delicious restaurants, avant-garde performances, and lively music shows, Victoria's capital rivals most European cities. Even as you're reading this post Melbourne Festival is going on, a 2 and a half week celebration of arts. Plus, its just a short drive to Philip's Island, home to the most photogenic penguins.

Brisbane
Up the coast from Sydney is Queenland's premiere city and one of the oldest in the country, Brisbane is the sophisticated history buff of Australia. Its distinctive Queenslander architecture and European heritage shines throughout the city, making it a great place to get lost in (who knows, you might make friends with its welcoming residents). From here you can also enjoy the splendor of the Great Barrier Reef, Fraser Island, and Byron Bay.
Perth
Underrated and lesser known compared to its eastern siblings, Perth is your gateway to the extremely diverse Western Australia. You can head on south to the gorgeous vineyards of southwest Australia, inland for a true outback adventure, or up the coast to Shark's Bay, Exmouth, Broome, and Kimberley. But before you leave the city make sure to try the food - Perth is in a massive culinary rivalry with Melbourne that has resulted in top-notch food tours, cooking classes, and bar crawls, the three keys to a perfect foodie adventure.

Adelaide
If you're looking to head south this winter then Adelaide is the perfect escape with warm weather, tempestuous wines, rambunctious nightlife, elegant style, and fantastic coastline. Locally you have the historical Port Adelaide to stroll through, the enriching Adelaide Zoo, and great wine country out in the Adelaide Hills. Resting on the eastern end of the Great Ocean Road, Adelaide is just one fantastic road trip from Melbourne, and if you're going to visit one you might as well hit up both.
Cairns
There's a lot of fantastic reasons to visit Cairns, and one really big one: the Great Barrier Reef. Your gateway to one of the most invaluable natural landscapes, Cairns offers frequent cruises and eco-tours that'll take you right out to the Reef to go snorkeling and scuba diving. Beyond the Reef, you can also head out to Daintree Rainforest and Kuranda Village to learn about the diverse Australian rainforests and Aboriginal culture.
Gold Coast
Now, every city in Australia offers something fun to do, but Gold Coast excels at it. Home to Australia's finest theme parks and the spirited Surfer Paradise, Gold Coast is where you go to have a true vacation and let your troubles wash away with the surf. Perfectly paired with sophisticated Brisbane, you can easily move between these two cities in one trip and satisfy both the spirited trekker and cultured traveler.
