Today, get ready to experience Fraser Island, a stunning island set in the Great Barrier Reef. After being picked-up from your accommodation in Hervey Bay, you'll transfer to the beautiful island!
Aboriginal legend names Fraser Island K'Gari, meaning paradise, probably because there are about 75 miles of incredible nature to enjoy: fresh-water lakes with turtles, rocky outcrops with magnificent views and a natural jacuzzi - all perfect to relax or swim.
Discover its amazing beauty with a 4WD tour. You'll start with a visit to Central Station, a former logging station where you can stroll along the Wanggoolba Creek boardwalk to discover the ancient King Ferns, towering Gum and Pine trees. Then, you'll head to Lake McKenzie for a revitalizing swim in the crystal blue waters and relax on the sandy white beaches...it’s picture perfect!
Next, drive along the Seventy-Five Mile Beach, a stunning sandy highway where you can spot local birds of prey hunting along the shore or humpback whales migrating through the region (between July - November). From here you'll travel to Eli Creek for a dip in this fast-flowing freshwater creek, which pours out 80 megalitres of water daily into the ocean.
Afterwards, you'll encounter the Maheno Shipwreck, a rusting wreck washed ashore during an out-of-season cyclone in 1935 - it's one of Fraser Island’s most recognizable sites. Finally, you'll reach the last great attraction: the Pinnacles Coloured Sands. Here, you'll learn how these technicolour sand formations were created and the Butchulla legends surrounding them.
Returning to Hervey Bay in the evening, you will have time to grab dinner before catching an overnight bus to Airlie Beach (about a 12-hour duration).
Lunch is included.
