The Columbia Icefield adventure was the highlight of my trip. Riding the giant snowmobile was a unique experience I’ll never forget. Do I need a park pass to visit Banff National Park?
Yes. A Banff National Park Pass is required for all visitors who stop, explore, hike, or stay in the town of Banff or anywhere inside the national park boundaries. This includes access to lakes, viewpoints and hiking areas. If you simply drive straight through on the Trans-Canada Highway without stopping, a pass isn’t needed. Many travelers buy passes ahead of time online to avoid lines at the park gates.
Can I visit Moraine Lake and Lake Louise without a car?
private vehicles are not allowed on Moraine Lake Road. Access is provided through Parks Canada shuttles, Roam Public Transit, and guided tours. The Parks Canada shuttle departs from the Lake Louise Ski Resort Park & Ride and serves both Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, with advance reservations strongly advised due to high demand. Roam Transit also runs seasonal routes from Banff town to Lake Louise, with a paid Lake Connector shuttle linking Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.
