Question 1

How to travel from Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok, and what are the transport options available?

Accepted Answer

From Bagdogra Airport (IXB), hire a pre-paid taxi or shared SUV to Gangtok (124 km, ~4 hours). Private taxis cost ₹2,500–₹3,500; shared vehicles charge ₹400–₹600 per seat. Ensure you carry valid ID for Sikkim entry permits, obtainable at Singtam checkpoint.

Question 2

Is Bagdogra safe for tourists during monsoon season?

Accepted Answer

Bagdogra is generally safe during monsoon, but landslides can disrupt routes to Sikkim and Darjeeling. Check road conditions before traveling. Expect moderate to heavy rain—carry rain gear and flexible itineraries. Flights may delay; monitor weather updates closely.

Question 3

What documents are required for Indian tourists traveling from Bagdogra to Sikkim?

Accepted Answer

Indian tourists need a Sikkim Inner Line Permit (ILP), obtainable online via the Sikkim Tourism website or at Rangpo checkpoint. Carry original photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, or voter ID). Permit is free and valid for 10 days; extendable online.

Question 4

Which prepaid taxi counter at Bagdogra Airport is reliable for reaching Darjeeling?

Accepted Answer

Use the official pre-paid taxi counter inside Bagdogra Airport terminal. Fares to Darjeeling (~80 km) range from ₹2,000–₹2,800 for sedans and ₹3,000–₹3,500 for SUVs. Confirm rate chart approval by AAI before payment. Avoid touts outside the terminal.
