Question 1

Which airport is closest to Wuzhen and how do I get there?

Accepted Answer

Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is the nearest major hub, located about 90 minutes away by car. Shanghai Pudong Airport is also viable but requires a two-hour drive. Direct shuttle buses run from both airports to the Wuzhen Scenic Area. For flexibility, hire a private transfer or take a high-speed train to Tongxiang Station, then a short taxi ride.

Question 2

What is the best time to visit Wuzhen to avoid crowds and rain?

Accepted Answer

Visit in late October or November for cool, dry weather and fewer tourists after the Golden Week rush. Avoid June and July, which constitute the peak rainy season with high humidity and frequent downpours. Spring offers blooming scenery but attracts large domestic crowds. Winter weekdays provide the most authentic, quiet atmosphere, though temperatures can drop near freezing.

Question 3

Do I need separate tickets for the East and West Scenic Zones?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the East Scenic Zone and West Scenic Zone require separate entrance tickets as they are managed distinctly. The East Zone focuses on local life and is cheaper, while the West Zone offers expanded nightlife and boat rides at a higher price. A combination ticket is available for same-day access to both areas. Purchase tickets online in advance to skip long queues at the gate.

Question 4

Can I use credit cards in Wuzhen or is cash required?

Accepted Answer

While major hotels and upscale restaurants accept Visa or Mastercard, most small vendors, boat operators, and street food stalls rely exclusively on mobile payments like Alipay or WeChat Pay. Cash in Chinese Yuan is widely accepted as a backup but change may be scarce. International travelers should link their foreign cards to Alipay before arrival or carry sufficient small-denomination cash.
