The capital of the British Columbia province, this Western Canadian city is located on Vancouver Island. Victoria was settled by the British in 1843 and named after the United Kingdom's Queen Victoria. It is nicknamed the "City of Gardens" and is home to the popular tourist attraction Butchart Gardens. Like nearby Vancouver, it is home to many First Nation peoples.
