Trinidad is a historical town in central Cuba. Founded in 1514, Trinidad is one of the best-preserved cities in the Caribbean from the time when the sugar trade dominated the region’s economy, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. The main plaza of Trinidad, the Plaza Mayor of Trinidad, is a veritable museum of Spanish Colonial architecture and features several sites of interest, including the Palacio Brunet, home to the Museo Romantico. Some town residents practice Santiera, a religion that merged Roman Catholicism with the religious beliefs of slaves brought from Africa.
