Rain is rare during the core summer months, and the skies are clearer, especially from late June into September, which is why this period is considered “dry season”. Summer gives full access to the city’s highlights: take a cable-car ride across the hills, visit the vibrant waterfront at Fisherman’s Wharf or go out to Alcatraz Island. Even though the climate is cool by many standards, this is peak tourist season so expect crowds at popular tourist spots, and higher prices for hotels.

This tour is a great choice for beginner campers who want to see Yosemite’s highlights. The guide set up the tents and did all the cooking. The hike to Vernal Fall was wet and slippery but the guide provided walking sticks. The only minor complaint is that the included lunch on day 2 was the same turkey sandwich as day 1 – a bit repetitive. But everything else was great, and the sunrise views were worth it.
