Located on the shore of Lake Eerie in downtown Cleveland Ohio, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum is dedicated to archiving the success of some of the most renowned musicians, producers and other professionals who have impacted the music industry. The museum was created under the instruction of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which was created in 1983. The nonprofit organization opened the museum in 1995 accompanied with a dedication celebration that featured live performances from Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Jerry Lee Lewis, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Iggy Pop and many other renowned artists. Music professionals inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are honored with a special exhibit documenting the inductee's achievements, when they are first inducted. There are seven levels in the museum, each level exhibit a different sub-genre of music, or a different period of music history. There are also galleries exhibiting the musical impact on some major cities such as Memphis, Los Angeles, Seattle and more. Some of the individual artists that are exhibited in the museum include the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and many many more. Museum inductees include some of the most respected and famous musicians in the world, including Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna and the Supremes, to name a few. There are four categories of induction which include performers, non-performers, early influences and life achievements. Inductees for the performers categories must be nominated and elected by the foundation's committee and later receive more than 50 percent of votes. Inductees for categories outside the performers category are inducted by special committees.
