Situated south of Salt Lake City, Provo is the third largest city in Utah. The city was discovered by Spanish Franciscan missionary-explorer Father Silvestre Veldez de Escalante in 1776 and was inhabited by 33 Mormon families from Salt Lake City in 1849.
