The stunning region on the Colorado Plateau if often filmed and photographed to portray the American West and was a favorite movie shoot location for director John Ford's many Westerns. Monument Valley features an artistic mix of colorful red sandstone formations up to 1,000 feet tall, vast desert lands and scenic horizons. The majority of it is within the 30,000-acre Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park created in 1958 and is located on the Utah and Arizona border.
