Montezuma Castle was declared a National Monument in 1906 by United States President Theodore Roosevelt commenting it was "of the greatest ethnological value and scientific interest" and also is on the U.S. Register of Historic Places. The site's Visitor's Center has some artifacts on exhibit in its museum.
