Situated between the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Great Basin Desert, this Eastern California saline lake is one of the oldest in North America dating back more than 760,000 years. Mono Lake has a surface area of about 45,133 and a volume of approximately 2.6 million acre feet. It contains many brine shrimp that attract many migratory birds to the region. The lake's magnificent tufa towers make for unique photographs especially in the South Tufa Reserve.
