Marienplatz is perhaps best known for its Carillon (Glockenspiel) in the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall), where every day at 11 a.m. and noon visitors can watch its 32 figures perform the Schäfferltanz, aka “Cooper’s dance,” which was originally performed in 1517 at the Marienplatz to commemorate the end of the plague.
