The Manhattan Bridge was designed by Leon Moisseiff and opened in 1909. Architectural firm Carrère and Hastings created an ornate arched entrance with a colonnade on the Manhattan side of the bridge several years later. The American Society of Civil Engineers named the bridge a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2009.
