Also known as Wolfgangsee, this gorgeous lake in Austria's Salzkammergut region is a popular resort destination. Lake Wolfgang was the setting of the legend that its namesake Bishop of Regensburg Saint Wolfgang, who built a church here in the 10th century. According to legend, he chose the destination by tossing an ax and seeing where it landed. Surrounding the lake are the towns and villages of St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen, Strobl, Abersee and Ried.
