The peaceful lake in Canada's Yukon wilderness has a surface area of 49,668 acres and is 31 miles long. Lake Laberge is the extending of the Yukon River and was named after New France settler Robert de La Berge in 1870. Many prospectors passed the lake during the 1890s Klondike Goldrush while they were traveling down the river to Dawson City. The gold rush vessel A. J. Goddard that sank in 1901 was discovered in the lake in 2009. Lake Laberge was noted in a Robert W. Service poem called "The Cremation of Sam McGee."
