The iconic symbol of show business with 50-foot white letters sits atop Mount Lee in the Santa Monica Mountains. The sign was originally erected to say "Hollywoodland" in 1923 to promote a housing plan for a 1 1/2 years, but remained as Hollywood became the Film Capitol of the World.
