The Canadian military site established in 1856 highlights the importance of Halifax as a naval station in the British Empire. Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada has a star-shaped structure with a defensive ditch, musketry gallery, barricades, gun powder storage areas, cells, various exhibits, period-decorated rooms, an Army Museum and theater presentations. It also has a coffee bar and gift shop. The Royal Artillery actors fire a gun every day at noon at the attraction.
