Translated as "waterfall of the gods," the falls played an important part in Icelandic history. To settle disputes between the growing Christian population and Norse worshiping Icelandics, Lawspeaker and Chieftain Thorgeir Ljosvetningagodi decided to convert all of Iceland to Christianity and, to show his faith, cast the Norse gods into the falls.

The tour leader was great, personable, knowledgeable and flexible where he could be. Weather and the sites were outstanding. I particularly liked that we took in a number of places that were a little more remote and less traveled by tour buses (ie. East Fjords), so the volume of visitors was relatively low. Overall is was a great trip, with outstanding weather, and it provided an excellent overview of Iceland, it's variety of landscapes and unique culture.
