This amazing royal blue caldera lake is an Oregon treasure and the deepest lake in the United States with a depth of 1,943 feet. Crater Lake was formed more than 150 years ago when the Mount Mazama volcano collapsed. The lake and its surroundings make up Crater Lake National Park created in 1902 and feature majestic mountain cliffs and the two islands of Wizard Island and Phantom Ship. Approximately 482,000 people visit the national park every year for sightseeing, swimming, hiking, fishing, boating and other activities.
